As we turn the page to 2025, the Kansas Association of Broadcasters remains steadfast in our commitment to championing the interests of broadcasters across the state. With new challenges and opportunities on the horizon, we are gearing up to advocate vigorously for policies that protect and strengthen our industry, ensuring broadcasters can continue serving their communities with trusted, local content. Our fight is far from over, and together, we’re ready to take on what’s next.

The AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act was not included in the final continuing resolution and supplemental appropriations package passed by Congress at the end of the year. While this is not the outcome we worked tirelessly to achieve, it’s important to recognize the significant progress we made:

  • More than half the House and Senate supported committee-passed AM bills.
  • Over 800,000 listener communications were sent to Congress.
  • Countless third-party groups voiced their support for this critical legislation.

These accomplishments underscore the strength of the industry’s collective advocacy and the importance of this issue.

Despite this progress, the legislation did not cross the finish line this year. Over the next few weeks, the NAB Government Relations team will conduct a thorough review of the closed-door negotiations to pinpoint where opposition efforts gained traction or created roadblocks. These insights will shape our strategy as we reintroduce AM legislation early in the next Congress and work to secure a swift path forward.

The KAB looks forward to continuing this fight in 2025, as well as advocating for issues on AI, ownership caps, prioritization of ATSC 3.0 rollout, big tech regulation and more.
