NAB is sending a letter on Tuesday, November 29 when the Senate comes back into session. The letter is to make a strong push to include the Journalism Competition and Preservation Act (JCPA) on the Senate agenda during the lame duck session ending in mid-December.

As we have shared before, the JCPA is to encourage preservation of local journalism in the age of big tech.

NAB writes: “The overwhelming size and power of Big Tech giants, such as Google and Facebook, dwarf local TV and radio stations and threaten Americans’ access to quality local journalism. Not only do they pose major threats to advertising revenue, but they are gatekeepers of online content, exerting power over what internet users access and how advertisers reach them. When Big Tech wins, local communities lose.”

With the potential of substantial advertising loss to our local stations and gatekeeping of news by big tech, advocating for this act to be heard in the next session is critical.
