The Kansas Association of Broadcasters (KAB) is proud to announce Andrew Smith as the 2026 recipient of the prestigious Dr. Ian Punnett Media Educator Award, recognizing excellence in media education and a lasting impact on the next generation of broadcasters.

Andrew, a faculty member at Kansas State University, has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to student success through his leadership of Channel 8 News and his work with Wildcat 91.9. His leadership within Collegian Media Group has strengthened student engagement and elevated the quality of campus media outlets.

Beyond the classroom, Andrew is widely recognized for his mentorship. Students and colleagues alike describe him as a trusted advisor who challenges individuals to grow while offering unwavering support both personally and professionally, while modeling integrity that leaves a lasting impression.

The Dr. Ian Punnett Media Educator Award honors educators who embody creativity, compassion, and excellence—values that defined Dr. Punnett’s legacy as a renowned Kansas State University professor, media professional, and KAB Hall of Famer. Andrew’s contributions to media education reflect those ideals and continue to strengthen the future of broadcasting in Kansas.
