Chairman’s Message

Justin Fluke, KNZA Radio Group Hiawatha

Greetings broadcast friends,

What a great annual convention we had in Overland Park! It was wonderful to see so many of you, get motivated with new ideas, grow professionally through networking and also feel rejuvenated listening to our speakers! It’s always refreshing to hear success stories and all the different ways that broadcasters are serving and engaging within their business and communities. Broadcasters across our state are known for having a good time, and I think everyone had some fun at the convention! Continued strong member attendance is what makes our convention so great, along with all the hard work and extra touches that Allison and Joelle have added to put on a first-class premier event. Thank you for participating and plan to join us in Wichita next October!

I’d like to welcome our newly elected KAB Board members: Justin Antoniotti (Hearst, Kansas City), Cheryl Collins (Seward County Broadcasting, Liberal) and Kyle Bauer (Taylor Communications, Clay Center), as well as welcome Mike Rajewski (KAKE, Wichita) to the executive committee. We thank them all for their willingness to serve our organization! I am super impressed with the diversity, talent, experience and knowledge that our KAB board has and know it will continue to do great things representing our interests and needs as Kansas Broadcasters!

Upcoming deadlines include the Engineering Academy registration on Nov. 1. KAB funded internships are always available and the deadline to submit applications for spring 2024 interns is Dec. 1. Also, the KAB Pay Your Way to Las Vegas deadline is Dec. 8. Any of your employees are able to apply for paid expenses to attend the NAB Show in April.

Later this month, the KAB will send out PEP pledge renewals. It is our hope that every KAB member-station will participate in this vital program. The KAB would not exist without your participation, and we thank you in advance for your support and recommitment!

As we prepare to close out the year and start laying out plans for 2024, don’t take for granted how fortunate we are to work in an industry that can make such a positive difference for so many people. Every. Single. Day. Stay focused on further engagement with our audiences, provide great results to our clients and encourage a positive work environment for our employees. November is a month where being thankful is stressed, and I’m thankful to be a Kansas Broadcaster with you! Have a blessed month!
