Butler Community College exists to develop responsible involved lifelong learners and to contribute to the vitality of the community it serves. We are currently seeking a full-time Journalism Instructor.

The Journalism Instructor is responsible to teach performance-based reporting, multimedia newspaper, multimedia magazine, and general media classes. The successful candidate will also advise our Grizzly magazine students. Must have working experience and knowledge of journalism organization operations and media equipment (hardware/software for acquisition, processing, layout and distribution including print/broadcast/streaming). Must be able to establish networking opportunities with local professionals for providing mentorships, internships and job placements.

This position supervises and instructs students transferring to a university and entering the workforce, as well as community members seeking self-enrichment; develops written syllabi/course outlines and course materials; evaluates knowledge of subject matter taught and individual training skills required to remain current with trends in the field through attendance of conferences, courses, seminars, and/or workshops; actively recruits and retains students for the Mass Communications Program; and maintains office hours to assist and potentially advise students.

Three or more years of experience teaching mass communications at the high school/collegiate level and/or three or more years of experience reporting (print/electronic).

Master’s degree in Mass Communications, or related, with at least 18 hours within discipline.
