Phil McComb, Kansas Broadcast Company – Southwest

Greetings and Happy New Year fellow broadcasters!

As your 2025 KAB Board Chair, I’m excited to serve our Kansas broadcasters. I’ve been a broadcaster since 1993, all but two years in Kansas. I had the privilege of being business partners with two KAB Hall of Famers, Dale McCoy Jr. and Bill Miller, and now serving with my third Hall of Famer, Kyle Bauer. My two favorite aspects of broadcasting are the people and the unique opportunities it provides. As broadcasters, we are privileged with extraordinary opportunities, but we also shoulder elevated responsibilities.

Concluding 2024, the board worked hard to bring Kansas broadcasters the Trust Campaign as our key initiative for 2025. This effort highlights the critical role local broadcasters play in delivering unbiased, professional news compared to “national news” and “unchecked” influencers on various social media platforms. Information is moving faster than ever before, and the KAB wants to keep all member stations informed and at the beginning of the information cycle.

Additionally, Allison and your board will continue to push our Kansas delegation in Washington DC for passage of “AM Radio for Every Vehicle Act”.  You’re encouraged to email, call and text lawmakers asking them to work with congressional leadership to get this done.

As we begin the year, I invite you to submit your membership dues, get involved in the Foundation’s 20 for Tomorrow fundraiser and take advantage of upcoming training opportunities like the Rising Above Summit on January 22-23.

I have big shoes to fill behind Roger Brokke and Justin Fluke, our two most recent past chairs. Roger and Justin tell me that Allison and Joelle make this position the easiest of all the positions I’ll ever have in broadcasting. If you have ideas or needs from the KAB, reach out to me at phil @ swksradio.net.
