Not sure where summer went but it always goes fast. And then, before we know it, we’re starting another school year. As broadcasters, there really is no “slow time” or “easy season” to get away. We’re always operating, and our staff is relied on 24/7 to ensure our listeners and viewers stay safe and informed. Our jobs never stop but that’s partially why this is such an exciting profession to be a part of. Still, I hope you were able to take a little time away from the daily grind to enjoy the summer.
The KAB held in-person judging for Station Awards in Birmingham, AL, the last week of July. The process was a new but exciting as industry professionals collaborated on choosing the top three winners for each category. We received great feedback on our awards program and the judges gave their kudos to Kansas broadcasters and their achievements. The winners will be announced the week of August 7.
With fall on the horizon, it is time to start preparing for the annual KAB convention. KAB has collected a great group of speakers and condensed the convention schedule to one full day. Registration and the convention website will be live on August 15 with the Early Bird Deadline being September 15. We will also include some new networking opportunities, a discussion panel of Kansas broadcasters on management topics, as well as a fun social hour to enjoy with colleagues across our state. Please plan to be in Overland Park for the KAB Convention on October 23rd.
Like summer, my message is shorter this month but there are plenty of opportunities and happenings within KAB. Please reach out to Allison or Joelle with any questions, concerns, or ideas. They do a fantastic job and are a terrific resource for whatever broadcasting information or insight you may need.
Stay cool,
